About this place
An essential stop, this small square at the entrance to the historic center, at the bottom of the hill descending from the airport, houses a statue of Pedro Álvares Cabral, the Portuguese navigator who led the expedition of the Discovery of Brazil in April 1500. With his arm outstretched, Cabral welcomes visitors and points toward the colonial houses that form the Passarela do Descobrimento, just a few meters away. This place is part of Rede Bem Bahia’s Regional Guide and helps visitors understand the natural, historical, cultural and scenic diversity of the Costa do Descobrimento. The experience changes according to the time of day, tide, weather, calendar and means of access. Plan your visit with travel, length of stay and current rules in mind, and confirm operational information before leaving.
