About this place
A rural village on the banks of the Buranhém River, between Arraial d’Ajuda and Trancoso. Its history is connected to Portuguese colonization and the arrival of the Jesuits in Brazil. During the second half of the 16th century, the Jesuit mission Aldeia do Espírito Santo dos Índios, or Aldeia Patatiba, was founded here. This place is part of Rede Bem Bahia’s Regional Guide and helps visitors understand the natural, historical, cultural and scenic diversity of the Costa do Descobrimento. The experience varies with the time of day, tide, weather, calendar and means of access. Plan your visit considering travel, time on site and current rules, and confirm operational information before setting out.
