About this place
Featuring a perfect, full-size replica of a nau, a Portuguese ship, the Memorial da Epopeia do Descobrimento is an open-air museum presenting a representation of one of Pedro Álvares Cabral’s caravels from 1500. It is also known for its botanical gardens with rare plants often used medicinally by Indigenous ancestors, and even by newly arrived Europeans in the 16th century. This place is part of Rede Bem Bahia’s Regional Guide and helps visitors understand the natural, historical, cultural and scenic diversity of the Costa do Descobrimento. The experience changes according to the time of day, tide, weather, calendar and means of access. Plan your visit with travel, length of stay and current rules in mind, and confirm operational information before leaving.
